Automation & MCP Open question — the Lab is working on this

Can the Stack chat agent take direct actions in the platform, like changing the status of a to-do list item or writing to the database, or does it only produce outputs like files and drafts?

Not today. Currently the agent produces files, analysis, and draft journal entries that are ready to post, but it cannot directly change statuses or write actions into the database on the user's behalf (e.g., you can't tell it to mark all tasks complete). The team indicated this capability is likely coming soon—having Stack take actions within the platform itself, or on Ramp spend management data (such as issuing funds to user cards or processing AP)—and that development is converging toward a chat experience where users can simply tell Ramp what they want done. The team is still finalizing exactly what that will look like to make it as easy to use as possible.
