Tax Open question — the Lab is working on this

How can I automate identifying and filing penalty abatement claims for clients affected by IRS penalty/interest issues (e.g., the 'Kwang' situation), including clients who received notices but weren't in my original calculated batch?

3:27From the June 11 call · Scrubbing Tax Returns, Penalty Playbooks, and Claude Skills

One member described using Claude to build a full playbook after feeding it an article on the topic, then exporting from tax software a list of clients for whom penalties and interest had already been calculated. The challenge raised was that many other clients received similar letters but weren't in that batch, and pulling their transcripts is harder since some clients aren't tech-savvy enough to pull their own transcripts. The proposed fix was to get a Form 2848 signed for every existing (legacy) client during a slower period, add them to the practitioner's account, and make transcript authorization part of standard onboarding going forward so transcripts can be pulled more easily in bulk. Another member suggested looking for additional patterns to mine from tax software data to catch more qualifying clients automatically, but no other tax-focused attendees were present to add further automation ideas, and no complete solution was finalized.
