Is there a 7216 difference between building your own workflow in Claude versus using a purpose-built vendor tool like Blue J or Black Ore?
The view expressed was that using a vetted third-party tool (Blue J, Black Ore, TaxGPT) is preferable to building something yourself in Claude, partly because you simply don't want to build it yourself, and partly because with a purpose-built tool the vendor carries more of the responsibility for putting proper guardrails in place - that's not the accountant's area of expertise. A vendor has (presumably) already vetted their own software and built it to operate within contained boundaries, versus something built from scratch. A separate reference was made to a conversation with a tax-focused commentator ('Ish') who suggested you can do a '7216 light' disclosure by embedding language in your engagement letter rather than obtaining a separate consent form when using one of these vetted tools. One participant said they're comfortable disclosing use of AI tools in the engagement letter and having clients sign it, but are not excited about needing a separate consent form for every case.
