Is there a way to scrub PII from client documents before feeding them to AI tools, without needing coding skills?

6:13From the June 16 call · Workpaper Automation, 7216 Questions, and Claude for Bookkeeping

One approach discussed: a member with no coding background built a local, non-cloud tool by simply asking Claude to create software that scrubs PII from documents. Claude directed her to install Python, and it wrote a script that runs locally on her computer—no internet required, and no AI touches the raw document during the scrubbing step. She drags and drops a client document in, it gets scrubbed locally, and only then does a separate button send the scrubbed version to AI. The tool is still in beta/testing and not yet scaled to handle bulk uploads (e.g., automatically processing hundreds of documents as they land in TaxCaddy), but the idea is to eventually integrate it into the document intake pipeline. The general method for building tools like this: tell Claude the exact problem you want solved, ask for ideas on how to build it, and instruct it to consider PII and relevant IRS code sections in the design.
